How to determine your shoe width

Cover Image

Many people only pay attention to shoe size – but shoe width is just as important when it comes to finding shoes that truly fit well.

The goal of the width system is simple: your foot should have enough freedom of movement while still being held securely in the shoe. This creates optimal comfort – and the best conditions for long-term foot health.

Joya sole technology also provides pleasant cushioning and even pressure distribution.

In this article you will learn:

  1. Which shoe widths Joya offers
  2. How to measure your foot width
  3. Why shoe width is so important for your foot health
  4. How to find the perfectly fitting Joya shoe

1. Which shoe widths does Joya offer?

Feet are as individual as people – this applies not only to length, but also to width. That is why Joya offers shoes in widths G, H, J and K.

The letters refer to the circumference in the forefoot area and stand for different widths:

  • G – comfort width: suitable for feet of normal width

  • H – for feet with a little more volume

  • J and K – for particularly wide feet or feet with special requirements

For foot widths G and H, you will find suitable models on the Joya ACTIVE and SENSO soles.

Our models with the WAVE sole are particularly well suited for wide feet with widths H, J or K – even if you wear medical insoles or orthotics. The WAVE sole features the removable Joya Multi-Fit insole. This allows the shoe width to be individually adjusted and optimally matched to every foot.

2. How to determine your foot width

With a few simple steps, you can determine your foot width yourself:

Step 1. Stand barefoot with both feet parallel on the floor.

Step 2. Distribute your weight evenly across both feet. It is best to have a second person help you so that you are really standing straight.

Step 3. Place a measuring tape around the widest part of your foot – in the forefoot area.

Step 4. Read the circumference in centimetres.

Using the measured circumference, you can determine your suitable shoe width in the following table.

3. Why shoe width is so important for your foot health

Well-fitting shoes are the basis for healthy feet. The correct width is at least as important as the correct size.

Shoes that are too wide

  • offer too little support
  • reduce the supportive function
  • can cause your foot to slip inside the shoe and lead to incorrect loading

Shoes that are too tight

  • quickly cause pressure points, friction and blisters
  • can lead to deformities and misalignment over time, e.g. hallux valgus or hammer toes

If you spend a lot of time on your feet at work or in your free time, your feet are under particular strain. That makes it even more important to pay attention to the right combination of length and width.

Joya health shoes, with their special pressure-distribution and cushioning properties, can only fully unfold their beneficial effect when shoe width and shoe size are chosen correctly.

4. Find your perfectly fitting Joya shoe
